I will be performing 8 of Janis's songs, August 23 on the porch of a cafe in El Morro New Mexicoon August 23rd. A film crew will be interviewing people regarding their relationship with Janis, Janis is so willing to enter other people's bodies, I was curious why she was so willing. So when I asked her why, what I recieved was this: "I want a national Janis holiday on the 3rd Saturday in August". I didn't understand why the 3rd Saturday in August, until a friend told me that Woodstock took place on the 3rd Saturday in August. I am preparing petitions to collect signatures for a National Janis Holiday. If there is an interest in helping obtain signatures. I'll send you copies.
I heard the Avalon's back open, with sheets and fractals from what I hear, is this so? Janice, w/BBHC WAS the original Family Dog. Don't suppose Chet Helms is into it anymore he was so cool, less capitalist or something as I remember, used to cost $2.50 for great shows!! Easy to hawk a few Oracles and get in.

I drove by her childhood home a couple times but didn't want to be seen as a stalker. The town sucks. I mean... no offense to people who like desolation.... but I can see why she left. Part of the reason i felt so connected to J when I discovered her (when i was 20, in 1993) was because I had just left a small shitkicker town in Texas for a life on my own. She said so much in her pained voice that I would just cry sometimes. Summertime hurts me still. It is so sad, even to someone that was born after her death, to have lost someone so important. God Bless her.
